Public Law (10 U.S. Code ยง 149) provides that all military veterans who served their
country under conditions not dishonorable are entitled to Military Funeral Honors, consisting of three volleys of blank rifle fire, a bugler sounding "Taps," the
ceremonial folding of the casket Flag, and, lastly, the presentation of that flag to family.
VFW Post 6849 participates in a joint Honor Guard with members American Legion Post 31 in Salinas, California. The request for an Honor Guard is normally made through the Mortuary handling the funeral, but the family may also request an Honor Guard be present at funeral services by following the procedures at outlined at this link.
